Swim Team 2021
Our swim team is cranking up for a return to the pool this year. It's a very exciting development after last year's shutdown. We hope that most kids from our 2019 squad can return, and we will welcome new families as well. This season will look a bit different than in previous years, but it will be much better than 2020's non-season! The kids will be excited to be back in the pool together.
As always, the team will depend on a lot of parental support. Behind the scenes, the new co-coordinators Todd Stuckey and Andy Dickerson are working on our schedule with the ASA, setting up a new team portal called SwimTopia, and many other topics. Once the meet season approaches, the team parents can swing into action to ensure that our meets will be successful. Wendy Hennessey will take over as Volunteer Coordinator to fill all those necessary slots. Parents should find it easy to sign up for their duties using the team's website. Team registration is “live” at https://lesliebeach.swimtopia.com/ !
For many years LBC paid part of the team's costs, then the philosophy changed to try to make the team revenue-neutral. Business sponsorships helped to defray team expenses during the past several years. If you would like to be the Sponsor Coordinator, please let us know of your interest. The next 4-6 weeks will be a crucial time for attracting sponsors.
Head Coach Madison McVeigh has a lot of experience training young swimmers. Many of you have known Madison through the years. She grew up at LBC and has been on the coaching staff for several years as well. She was head Covid supervisor last summer as well, so most LBC families interacted with her. Madison will have a big focus on teaching the strokes, especially to the younger kids who need fundamental training. If your child is 5 or older, it will be a great opportunity to get them involved with the team. There will be special practice times for the Junior Penguins. Additional coaches will be announced soon.
Meets will be usually be on Tuesdays from late May through late June. We are waiting for our schedule assignments. The ASA championship meet at the Georgia Tech Olympic Natatorium will be during the last week in June, and participation will be optional for LBC. Procedures will be a bit different this year due to capacity requirements; spectators will be limited.
As mentioned above, please visit https://lesliebeach.swimtopia.com/ to begin the process. It will take just a few minutes. Registration will cost $135 per swimmer this year. We will not require team suits this year – but we highly recommend sturdy one-piece suits for the girls, and Speedos or “jammer” style trunks for the boys. More info to follow. We will provide shopping links as the season approaches.

The LBC Swim Team is a seasonal competitive swim team offering high quality coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of our team is to provide every swimmer an opportunity to enjoy the experience of being on a summer swim team while also engaging in Dual Meet competition. While we focus on achieving success at his or her level of ability, parents need to understand that Swim Team is not a substitute for swim lessons. For swimmer and team safety, all new members and returning Junior Penguin swimmers must complete a swimmer evaluation with the head coach.
All of our coaches, as members of the American Swimming Coaches Association, have great experience both with the summer DeKalb Swim League and year round swim teams. They provide assurances that the time children spend in swimming will be quality time.
The LBC Swim Team is run by parent volunteers. Please look out for volunteer opportunities during each meet.
